Autumn Tree ID Walk with Marc Wolf

← All Events

As autumn settles over Spiral House Park, join horticulturalist Marc Wolf for a guided walk through the park’s trails and woodlands, exploring the rich diversity of native trees found across the landscape.

Along the way, Marc will introduce participants to the fundamentals of tree identification, sharing practical ways to recognize different species through their leaves, bark, branching patterns, growth habits, and other distinguishing characteristics. We’ll look closely at how different trees inhabit the landscape and consider the relationships between tree species, their surrounding habitats, and the larger woodland ecosystem.

October offers a particularly interesting time to observe the forest as leaves change color and begin to fall, revealing new details in the trees’ bark, branches, and structure. Together, we’ll slow down, look closely, and become better acquainted with some of the trees that shape the landscape of Spiral House Park.

Whether you’re already familiar with local trees or simply curious to learn more about the woods around you, this walk offers an accessible introduction to identifying and appreciating the trees of the Hudson Valley.
